Re: KSHSAA’s Latest Ruling

Date: January 25, 2021

At the January 20 meeting of the Kansas State High School Activities’ Association, the board of directors changed the limited number of spectators per participant for school events. Former language allowed two guardians per participant, and the new wording states, “a maximum of four spectators per participant.” This new rule takes effect January 29, 2021.

We will approach this new ruling with a ticket system. Coaches and sponsors will give their participants their allotted tickets for them to distribute to the four people of their choice.

Our first opportunity to work within this new ruling will be Friday, January 29, 2021. Both events that day are out of town; HS Wrestling at Goodland and HS Basketball at Cimarron. Other towns may choose to allow fewer than four tickets depending on the size of their facility. We will distribute tickets according to the local rule when we travel.

Another part of the KSHSAA ruling is that masks continue to be required at all competitions. We fully understand this is the only place in Scott City where masks are required. Also, we fully understand many of you do not choose to wear them. For the sake of the continuation of being able to participate under KSHSAA’s ruling, and with understanding that visitors from other towns may accelerate the spread of disease, we ask you to bring and wear a face mask. Choosing to not wear a mask to prove a point only distracts attention from the participants, and all of us would like to enjoy their competitions and performances.

If you decide you cannot abide by any of the rulings from KSHSAA, we will continue to live stream events on the BBN or Facebook Live for you to enjoy the events at home.

Our district is thankful for the work put in by students, staff, parents and patrons to keep this school year going smoothly.

In Education,
