The plan below is based upon guidance from state and federal agencies on our intentions for health protocols for the 2023-24 school year. This plan has been greatly influenced by the experience our school and community had in 2020-21, the first full school year after the pandemic. Updates to the procedures within will come with approval from the USD 466 board of education, and will be immediately communicated to the families of Scott County School’s students.
Per state and federal agencies, the following information is required to be in place:
Describe how the district will maintain the health and safety of students, educators, and other staff and the extent to which it has adopted policies, and a description of any such policies, on each of the following safety recommendations established by the CDC:
- Universal and correct wearing of masks.
USD 466 will allow students or staff to wear masks if they determine their use to be necessary. With the number of positive cases being low or absent in our county, we will not require their use unless the number of cases makes a dramatic change.
- Modifying facilities to allow for physical distancing (e.g., use of cohorts/podding).
All buildings in USD 466 will return to the regularly established mode of use that was in place before March of 2020. Adjustments will be made in the event of a dramatic change in total number of positive COVID-19 cases for Scott County.
- Handwashing and respiratory etiquette.
Students will continue to learn proper handwashing and personal hygiene as a part of our health education practices. Hand soap and hand sanitizer will be available to all students and staff. District custodial staff will disinfect areas where infected students or staff have been, should we receive notification of the illness.
- Cleaning and maintaining healthy facilities, including improving ventilation.
USD 466 will clean facilities daily, using disinfectant within cleaning routines. Equipment used to clean and disinfect hard surfaces in classrooms, restrooms, locker rooms, lunchrooms, and hallways will continue to be used. Staff will have access to disinfectant spray bottles to clean as deemed appropriate. The district has supplies in place to fog rooms where infections are known to spread.
Indoor Air Quality Improvements have been made in all student attendance buildings. The district will continue to monitor air quality in all district owned locations.
- Contact tracing in combination with isolation and quarantine, in collaboration with the State, local, territorial, or Tribal health departments.
The district nurse will work with the county health department as allowed by law. Should contract tracing be necessary, parental consent will be included within the practice of identifying students and staff who may have been infected due to close contact.
- Diagnostic and screening testing.
The district does not plan to provide on-site testing for COVID-19.
- Efforts to provide vaccinations to school communities.
Working with the county health department, the district will provide information on time and availability of vaccinations to students and families.
- Appropriate accommodations for children with disabilities with respect to health and safety policies.
USD 466 will provide all necessary accommodations for students with disabilities or health risks by working with families and building staff.
- Coordination with State and local health officials.
USD 466 administration, nursing staff, and board of education representatives will attend meetings with local health officials when concern arises for the health of our students and staff.
Describe how the district will ensure continuity of services, including but not limited to:

All buildings are staffed with an At-Risk teacher and paraprofessional staff. This staff will help students with reading skills, math skills, and the workload associated with their grade level. Assessment tools are in place to allow our staff to determine the need of each student.

Counseling staff will be available in each attendance building.

Summer food service will remain a free service to all students within our district.
